London is excited to be able to offer Mixed Ability Rugby in partnership with Rugby Ontario and The Abilities Centre.
Mixed Ability Rugby is a program that provides athletes of all abilities. Rugby Ontario and London St George’s have partnered with Abilities Centre to offer Mixed Ability Rugby. Mixed Ability Rugby is an approach to the game of rugby that welcomes players of all ages, abilities, backgrounds, and experiences into the rugby community.
Mixed Ability Rugby follows the traditional game of rugby with minor variations to support mass participation. Currently the game is played with flags instead of contact, following the same World Rugby Laws for flag rugby.
Mixed Ability Sport encourages social inclusion by welcoming players of all abilities into a mainstream sport setting in their local community playing non-adapted sports.
The model aims to promote social inclusion through sport, education and advocacy.
“I usually get nervous going on the field but this time I didn’t notice the crowd, I was excited to just play!”
Innovative variations within existing sports environments to allow full inclusion, not only for individuals with disabilities, but also for those returning to sport, newcomers, and any individual in our communities
We are excited to offer this programming in London in 2021 and beyond.
